VB Notes 0.2: search by meaning on the desktop
VB Notes 0.2 is out for Mac, Windows and Linux. Get it from the releases page.
Search by meaning on the desktop
The desktop app now runs the same search model as the phone. The first time it starts, it downloads the model once (about 380 MB) and reads your notes in the background, newest first. On a Mac with Apple Silicon it reads a thousand notes in a few minutes. Settings › Search shows how far it has got.
Ask in your own words in the list’s search box, or in the new ⌘O window.
Find or create, with ⌘O
Press ⌘O (Ctrl+O on Windows and Linux) anywhere. Type a few words to jump to a note, or press Return on the first row to start a new note titled with what you typed. If a note already has exactly that title, Return opens it instead.
Hide a tag from the main list
Settings › Hide from Notes keeps the notes of chosen tags out of the main list. They still show when you pick the tag, and search still finds them. The list is kept in your notes folder, so the phone and the desktop share it.
Also in this release
- When you change your notes folder, VB Notes asks whether to copy your notes into the new one.
- The Mac app needs macOS 13 or later.
